Obituary
Rosa A. Taylor Smith, 81, of Salisbury and formerly of Pocomoke City, passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2021 at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional. Born on September 15, 1939 in Pocomoke City, MD, she was the daughter of the late Frances “Frank” Taylor and the late Amelia Baines Taylor.
Rosa accepted Jesus Christ at an early age. She often spoke of walking to church as a child. Rosa’s Christian journey began at Mount Sinai Baptist Church. She was faithful member for many years serving as an Usher, Missionary, Kitchen Committee member, Senior Choir member, Deaconess, Minister and working with the youth. Rosa was also a part of the singing group “The Soul Searchers” who would travel to different churches singing God’s praises. In her later years, she joined Georgetown Baptist Church where she served as Minister and choir member. As her health began to fail and she could not make it to her church, she would often visit Mount Carmel Baptist Church and New Life Church, both in Princess Anne.
Rosa had many names, Rosa, Rosie, Mitch, Mom, Grandmom, Granny but no matter what name you called her, you knew that she was a child of the King. Rosa loved the Lord and she did not mind praising him no matter where she was.
Rosa was a very loving, caring, and supportive wife, mother, and grandmother. Although she had many jobs she worked as home health sitter for many years. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, eating out, playing games with the grandkids and watching Family Feud. Until her health failed, she really enjoyed traveling; especially attending the Smith-Jordan family reunion.
She is survived by one daughter, Vicki Harmon (Dave) of Salisbury, MD; five step-children, Shirley Coston, Laverne Smith, Gloria Smith of Snow Hill, MD, Ella Smith of Cheaspeake, VA and Isiah Drummond of Pocomoke City, MD; one sister-in-law, Parrie Lee Knight, Miami, Fl.; 2 nieces who were like daughters, Annette Maddox (Dwayne) and Barbara Stevenson (Ira, Sr.), nine grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. Two Goddaughters, Robin Austin and Angela Grant (Sam),as well as a host of other cousins, nieces and nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband William C. Smith “Red Devil”, Sr.; one stepson, William C. Smith, Jr.; and her one sister, Dorothy Justice (Stanley).
