The third installment of our Tennessee River Grand Slam Cleanup, our cleanup in Knoxville was in support of the 30th annual Ijams River Rescue. Ijams Nature Center coordinates the event, which utilizes more than 600 volunteers cleaning creeks and streams across three counties on the Tennessee River watershed.

Partnering with Living Lands & Waters, our group was able to pull out 2,316 lbs. of trash, including 12 tires, a refrigerator, a large, metal lawn roller, a rusted metal billboard sign, and a styrofoam couch!

We worked from Melton Hill lake on the Clinch River, which feeds into the Tennessee River. The Knoxville Volunteer Rotary Club made up a large part of our volunteers, including a group that they mentor called the Austin East Interact Club.

It was a beautiful day to help #KeepTNRiverBeautiful!
